Companies that are using cloud computing are paying as little as one-tenth for the same processing power as they would for equivalent in-house facilities. This is according to an article in Computer Weekly published in February on the Powered By Cloud conference held in London.
Our view: It is certainly true that the cloud can substantially reduce the cost of providing some IT services. As with most new technologies however, any savings that arise are much more likely to come from good management than from the technology itself. Whilst broadcasting headline grabbing statements like the above gets attention it probably does little to make a lot of senior IT executives feel comfortable about the large cost of existing, in place corporate IT infrastructure.
