Amazon Relational Database Service Available in Europe

Administrator 14 April 2010 0

Amazon Relational Database Service (Amazon RDS) is a web service that
makes it easy to set up, operate, and scale a relational database in
the cloud.

Until now, Amazon RDS has been located in data centres in the U.S. but
from today instances can be hosted in Europe (Ireland).

This allows European customers to comply with the European Union’s
Data Protection Directive, which regulates the processing of personal
data within the European Union, without having to have a Safe Harbour
Agreement with a U.S.-based provider.

The costs per hour are slightly higher than the U.S.-based service.
