Joyent makes available Microsoft Windows Server virtual machines

In common with other major cloud computing Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) providers, such as Amazon Web Services, GoGrid and Rackspace, Joyent have announced the availability of Microsoft’s operating systems on their cloud computing virtual machines.  As well as CentOS, Debian, and Ubuntu, there are now three versions of Windows Server available:

  • Windows Server 2008 Standard
  • Windows Server 2008 HPC
  • Windows Server 2008 Enterprise

Joyent claim that their platform is optimized for web application development by delivering high performance in the following areas:

  • Disk I/O,
  • Memory I/O,
  • Improved CPU speed,
  • reduced network latency.
