Oracle Database on Amazon Relational Database Service

Nigel Duke 1 February 2011 0

Amazon will make available Oracle Database 11g on its Amazon Relational Database Service (Amazon RDS) cloud database platform in the second quarter of 2011.  Amazon’s plans include a flexible pricing option, the ability to apply existing Oracle Database licences to Amazon RDS and pay-as-you-go hourly licensing.

Amazon RDS allows provisioning and scaling via the web-based AWS Management Console and manages database administration tasks, such as backups and software patching.

Currently only MySQL – another Oracle product – is available on Amazon RDS.
