VMware, best known for virtualisation software, has launched Cloud Foundry, a Plaform-as-a-Service (PaaS) supporting a number of frameworks, languages, services and programming models.

As with other PaaS offerings the aim of Cloud Foundry is to minimise deployment and configuration.

Currently supported frameworks are:

  • Spring
  • Grails
  • Node.js
  • Ruby on Rails
  • Sinatra

Databases supported are:

  • MySQL
  • Redis
  • MongoDB

Cloud Foundry is open source, allowing deployment on Infrastructure-as-a-Service providers such as Amazon EC2.
